Die zweite Festplatte von Toshiba ist gestorben

Arbeitsplatz

The Second Toshiba Harddrive died

Further down you can read my report about how I had to replace the hard disc of my powerbook because the numbers of bad blocks had suddenly increased and exceeded the maximum to be compensated.
Immediately after this repair a friend of mine asked me to have a look at his Apple iBook the 30 GByte hard disc of which – also made by Toshiba – showed identical symptoms as those of the hard disc in my powerbook.
The first one is a Toshiba 2.5“ MK6025GAS 60 GB and the second one a Toshiba 2.5“ MK3025GAS 30 GB.
I am sure, hard drives should last longer than only one and a half year. Two different computers equipped with hard drives of the same type, showing identical problems seems to be a very odd coincidence. It looks like a serial bug in these hard drives. I will ask Toshiba what they will do about this phenomena and will report on the result.
